The challenge at the Essex County Club was to design a seamless addition to the existing clubhouse, including a new golf pro shop, an enlarged bar and an outdoor terrace extension. The highest compliment is the repeated comment that “it looks like it’s always been there.”
The existing 1950’s pool house was gutted to update the interior bathhouse facilities, and renovated to expand the snack bar, kitchen and storage. The new sloped roof updated the building to make it more compatible with the adjacent clubhouse. A second floor “porch structure” provides a viewing platform for the pool and adjacent grass tennis courts.
The winter paddle tennis house was conceived as a small amusing folly. It serves as a warming house and as a viewing platform overlooking the courts.
